Finding the front door

Vista Verde is about 1.7 km above Minca in Sector Monte Cristo. The way up is simple once you know the trick — and the trick is not to search for the hostel.

Type this into Google Maps

Search “Entrada a Montecristo”

The hostel warns that searching for “Hostal Vista Verde” can route you the wrong way. Search the turn-off, then follow the Vista Verde signs.

Finding the front door

  1. 01

    Get to Minca

Minca is roughly 45 minutes from Santa Marta. Travel guides report shared colectivos leaving Santa Marta’s market area through the day (they go when full) and taxis making the trip; ride-hailing apps can take a long time to find a driver in Minca. Bring enough cash in pesos.

  2. 02

    Find the centre

You arrive in Minca’s small centre around the church. Moto-taxis wait in town; the walk up starts here too.

  3. 03

    Search “Entrada a Montecristo”

Not the hostel name. This is the turn-off the hostel tells its guests to look for.

    Walk up or ride up

    ≈35 min

    On foot

About 35 minutes uphill and, in the hostel’s words, scenic. Best in daylight with a light pack.

    ≈8 min

    By moto-taxi

About 8 minutes. Agree the fare before you get on and pay in cash. Ask for “Entrada a Montecristo”, then Vista Verde.

  5. 05

    Follow the Vista Verde signs

From the Entrada a Montecristo, the hostel’s own signs lead to the gate. Look for the wooden signpost.

  6. 06

    Arrive before 20:00

Reception is open 07:00–21:00 and the hostel recommends arriving before 20:00. Running late? Send a WhatsApp.

Before you set off

  • Luggage

It’s an uphill walk. With a suitcase or a heavy pack, take the moto-taxi.

  • Daylight

Aim to arrive with light left. The last stretch is easier to find, and reception closes at 21:00.

  • Rain

Mountain showers make paths muddy and slippery. Pack a rain layer and keep your phone dry.

  • Offline maps

Signal can drop on the mountain. Download an offline map before you leave — Maps.me has been recommended in the hostel’s posts.
