Cascada Escondida, the Hidden Waterfall

15 minutes on foot · natural pool

  • 15 min walk
  • 15 min each way, plus pool time
  • Small entrance fee reported — bring cash

The closest waterfall to your bed: a 15-minute walk from the hostel to a hidden fall and natural pool in the forest.

The hostel lists it as a 15-minute walk to the Hidden Waterfall with natural pool, and the signpost by the gate agrees. It is also known locally as Cascada Perdida and sits near the Entrada a Montecristo — the same turn-off you use to reach the hostel.

Visitors report a small entrance fee at the waterfall, steep sections, a broken step on the way down to the pool and mud even in dry weather. Water levels and pool conditions change with the rain, so look before you swim. It is also where Santana's canyoning route reportedly finishes.

These photos show Vista Verde and its surroundings, not Cascada Escondida, the Hidden Waterfall itself. The hostel’s own photos of it are on the wish list.
